Club Type: Service Description: Key Club is a community service club that runs on both the district and international level. Stuyvesant Key Club is the largest community service club in the New York State District. In accordance to our motto, "Caring - Our Way of Life", our members dedicate themselves to improving New York City through our support of various causes, small and large. We participate in a variety of events throughout all five boroughs, helping at major walks including MSABC (Making Strides Against Breast Cancer) and AIDS Walk, working to improve parks and gardens throughout the city, and making food for the city's homeless. We also organize a number of fund-raisers that occur year-round, such as Glow-in-the-Dark Minigolfing and Bowl-a-Rama. By helping and assisting our home, school, and community, we are able to meet many great people, gain leadership experience, and make a difference in the world. Mission: Key Club is a service leadership organization for high school students. Our mission is to foster the development of initiative, leadership, and good citizenship practices while serving the people of the community through our volunteer works. Appointment of Officers: All active members are allowed to nominate themselves for Cabinet or Board positions. Approximately one month of campaigning takes place before elections in February/March. All members interested in running for an office must pass an exam on necessary Key Club International information in order to be a candidate. President/Vice President candidates run on a single ballot; Secretary, Treasurer and Editor candidates run individually. P/VP candidates make a joint speech of 4 minutes. Sec. Treas. and Ed. candidates have 2 minutes. After each speech, a 5-min question and answer session it held. Members vote by anonymous written ballot and Officers, along with the Advisor, tally up the votes and then contribute their votes - a total of which consists of 20% of the overall ballots. Impeachment: An officer can only be impeached if s/he displays signs of irresponsibility. If s/he fails to fulfill their responsibilities within a designated time frame, then appropriate measures will be taken by the Board members, comprised of the cabinet and committee heads, to remove and replace him/her from office. |
